There is a possibility for sudden increase of wind speed up to (50-60) kmph in North-western, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces and (40-50) kmph in North-central province and in Trincomalee district. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-western provinces. Light showers will occur in Mannar, Jaffna, Trincomalee and Anuradhapura districts. Showers or thundershower will occur at a few places in Uva province after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

New Voter lists in GN offices from the 23rd

The Election Commission said that 2019 Voter Registration lists will be displayed in all Grama Niladhari offices from the 23rd of this month.Grama Niladharis have already handed over voter registration lists to district offices and the district offices would take necessary action with respect to each Grama Niladhari Division, Additional Elections Commissioner Saman Sri Ratnayake said.The Election Commission stated that after checking the 2019 voter register, voters who do not have their name included in the list should file a claim.

SLToperating profit rises by 42%

The SLT Group announced its financial results for the first half of the year 2019 with a remarkable growth of 42% YoY in Operating Profit to reach Rs. 4.5 billion(Bn).The growth momentum was driven by better management of costs and increase of revenue by 7.9% YoY to Rs. 42.6 Bn with significant contributions from its key business portfolios of fixed and mobile broadband services, Global business, Career domestic, Enterprise intelligent business solutions, PEO TV services, National Backbone Services and Digital Services. The Group comprises of nine subsidiaries including its mobile arm Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd. The Gross Profit was recorded at Rs. 18.8 Bn with a YoY growth of 13%.

Need to reinvest more on replanting - Minister

Regional Plantation Companies (RPC) are not re investing as much as private tea smallholders, Minister of Plantation Industries Navin Dissanayake told the 125th AGM of the Colombo Tea Traders Association (CTTA).He said the RPCshould do more replanting and also look into introducing more scientific methods towards the tea industry. The Minister said that this had resulted in 73% of tea exports been done by tea smallholders. The government has supported them and during the last few years, we have invested over Rs 3 billion towards them.

PM: Choose between development or returning to destruction
